belongs to the lateral tract of the sacrospinal system and is present in three parts corresponding to the section of the spinal column: Iliocostalis cervicis, Iliocostalis thoracis, Iliocostalis lumborum.

Innervation: lateral branches of the rami posteriores of the spinal nerves
Antagonists:
Movement: Bilateral innervation: extension of the spine; unilateral innervation: ipsilateral lateral flexion of the spine or elimination of contralateral lateral flexion.
