M. rectus capitis lateralis

lies in front of the first head joint, dorsolateral to the longus capitis muscle. It is not part of the autochthonous back musculature.
Origin: Ala atlantis
Insertion: jugular process of the occipital bone
Innervation: Rami anteriores from C1 and C2
Antagonists:
Movement: Flexion and lateral flexion in the head joint
