The scaleni are divided into three parts: in addition to the scalenus medius, there is also the scalenus anterior and the scalenus posterior.
Origin: Procc. transversi of HW 3 ? 7
Attachment: 1st rib
Innervation: ventral branches of spinal nerves from C4-7
Antagonists:
Movement: innervated on one side: Lateral flexion of the cervical spine; bilateral: Flexion of the cervical spine
