the splenius consists of two parts, splenius capitis and splenius cervicis

Attachment: (see its parts)
Innervation: lateral branches of the posterior rami of the segmental spinal nerves, including the greater occipital nerve; segments C2 to Th3 sometimes also indicated as C1 to Th6
Antagonists:
Movement: Lateral flexion and rotation if innervated on one side, otherwise reclination
