Digastricus in the context of the ventral neck
suprahyal hyoid muscle with two origins:
- venter anterior: originates from the digastric fossa of the mandible and extends dorsocranially
- venter posterior: originates from the incisura mastoidea of the temporal bone and extends ventrocaudally
The tendon that connects the two abdomens perforates the sytlohyoid muscle. The digastric muscle lifts the hyoid bone for swallowing and is involved in opening the jaw.
