M. intercostalis externus
the superficial part of the oblique abdominal muscles, running ventrally from caudal-medial to cranial-lateral, the enlargement of the thorax caused by it creates negative pressure in the lungs and leads to inspiration. It is therefore an inspiratory respiratory muscle.

Innervation: intercostal nerves 1-11, Th1 to Th12
