Definition

Common benign tumor: cystic protrusion of the synovial membrane or tendon sheath. Usually on the dorsal side of the hand, often on the lunate bone, more common in women between 20 and 30 years of age. In the case of a joint, connected to the joint space

Cause

  1. unknown
  2. partly chronic irritation
  3. Chronic overuse

Diagnosis

  1. Palpation: prallelastic tumor filled with viscous fluid
  2. Inspection
  3. Needle aspiration of the liquid
  4. Sono
  5. X-ray to rule out exostosis

Symptoms

  1. possibly tension pain
  2. Possibly painful restriction of flexibility
  3. possibly pressure pain

Complications

  1. Sensitivity disorders due to nerve compression
  2. Compression of vessels
  3. Recurrence tendency

Therapy

  1. Avoidance of overuse
  2. Immobilization if necessary
  3. Manual crushing with moderate pressure
  4. Puncture with aspiration
