joint contusion

Definition of

Sudden compression of the joint due to an impact from outside, resulting in injury to the joint cartilage. Cartilage, disks and menisci can be affected. Parts of the cartilage may be blown off. Parts of the joint capsule (folds) may also be affected by the contusion

Diagnosis

  1. Palpation
  2. Function test
  3. X-ray, sono, MRT if necessary

Symptoms

  1. Bleeding if necessary
  2. If necessary: Joint effusion
  3. Mainly painful restriction of movement
  4. functio laesa
  5. Periarticular swelling

Therapy

  1. PECH
  2. Kyrotherapy
  3. Immobilization if necessary
  4. KG
  5. Anti-inflammatory drugs, thrombosis prophylaxisif necessary
  6. Usually spontaneous healing without complications, but not in menisci
  7. For joint effusion: puncture
  8. Surgery if necessary, especially in the case of concomitant ligament damage
