Definition of

Claw toe can affect toes 2-5 and is characterized by hyperextension in the metatarsophalangeal joint, often with dislocation or subluxation. This usually results in a (at least flexible) hammer toe, which is why the two usually occur together. Depending on the author, however, increased flexion in both toe joints (PIP and DIP) is also required, which excludes Mallet ’s hammer toe.

  2. Inadequate footwear, existing foot deformities
  3. Rolling of the foot when walking and bending with flexed position of the toes

– Musculoskeletal system

  1. Hallux valgus
  2. Flat foot
  3. Splayfoot
  4. Buckling foot

– Other factors

  1. female gender
  2. Weak connective tissue

Symptoms

  1. Pressure sores, calluses
  2. Joint pain
