  1. Muscle contusion: formation of a hematoma between the individual muscle fibers
  2. Bonebruise: Formation of a hematoma between bone and periosteum
  3. Joint contusion (see there)
  4. Soft tissue contusion: formation of a hematoma in the skin and possible damage to internal organs, e.g. rupture of the spleen

  3. Moderate to severe pressure pain
  4. Pressure soreness
  5. Painful movements
  6. In case of joint contusion: painful restriction of movement
  7. for rib contusions: Pain when breathing (DD rib fracture, pneumothorax)

Complications

  1. Compartment syndrome
  2. In the case of muscle contusion: soft tissue ossification (ossification: „heterotopic ossification“)

Therapy

  1. PECH:
  2. no massages !!!
  3. Analgesics: Paracetamol, ibuprofen, diclofenac
  4. Usually heals spontaneously within approx. 6 weeks, most of the pain is gone after just a few days
  5. Severe contusions may require surgical intervention
