subacromial bursitis (bursitis of the shoulder)
Definition of
bursitis subacromialis (affects the largest bursa in the body), bursitis due to mechanical overstimulation or trauma. Chronic stress causes collagen cells to proliferate and deposits calcium in the tendons, which favors their inflammation
Cause
- traumatic (then often bleeding into the bursa, can cause chronic inflammation )
- Overloading during overhead movements
- subacromial impingement
Predisposing
– Behavior
- Poor posture
- Occupations working overhead (painters, fitters, teachers)
- Sports such as badminton, tennis, volleyball
– Musculoskeletal system
– Dispositional diseases
– other factors
- Age, diabetes mellitus
- Irritant factors: physical (excessive heat / cold, UV light, ionizing radiation) or chemical (heavy metals, toxins, acids, alkalis)
Diagnosis
- Medical history and clinical examination
- Sonography, X-ray, MRI
- Tests and signs: Neer test and speed test for the detection of impingement
Symptoms
- progressive, stabbing pain on further abduction of the arm, radiating into the upper arm, painful restriction of movement
- Increasing pressure pain in the shoulder
- Night pain when lying on the shoulder
- without treatment and rest later also rest pain
- Force reduction
- with septic bursitis also redness, overheating, temperature increase
