The subcrureus is a muscle with two origins that originates ventrally a few centimeters above the condyles of the femur and pulls the suprapatellar bursa cranially when the knee joint is extended. It prevents the synovial membrane from becoming trapped between the femur and patella. It is usually about 1.5 to 3 cm wide. It varies greatly.
