Definition of
Pathologically increased muscle tone. Most commonly affected muscles: trapezius, levator scapulae, supraspinatus
Cause
- Poor posture, especially prolonged one-sided posture without variety, e.g. working at a computer
- Unfavorable sleeping position
- Incorrect loading

Symptoms
- Pain
- Pressure sensitivity, if applicable
- Tense feeling, stretching pain: stretching pain occurs earlier, has a more agonizing note
- Increased muscle tone palpable
Complications
- Resting posture resulting in further changes in the postural apparatus
- Chronic increase in tone (muscle hardening) and loss of elasticity
