Coccygeus

The coccygeus is an inconstant, flat, triangular transverse striated muscle located dorsally on the posterior edge of the levator ani, which attaches to the ischial spine of the ischium and extends to the coccyx. Its fibers are usually fused with the sacrospinous ligament. The coccygeus reinforces the action of the levator ani on the pelvic diaphragm and, together with the piriformis, closes the pelvis dorsally.
