Mm. rotatores
Rotatores breves: depending on the section of the spine, the rotatores can be divided into three groups: thoracis, lumborum, cervicis. The rotatores breves are the shorter ones that span one segment, the rotatores longi the longer ones that span two segments. Depending on their position, they extend to the spinous processes of more cranially located vertebrae from their
origins:
– thoracis: transverse process of a vertebra.
– cervicis: Processus articularis.
– lumborum: Processus mamillaris
Attachment: Processus spinosus of the cranial vertebra
Innervation: medial branches of the rami posteriores of the segmental spinal nerves
Antagonists:
Movement: Innervated on both sides: Extension of the spine; innervated on one side: Rotation of the spine
