Sand toe

Definition of

Sand toe is a traumatic hyperplantar flexion trauma of the hallux, i.e. the twisting of the big toe in a plantar direction, as can happen in barefoot sports when the big toe gets caught on an obstacle (or the ground). Sand toe is therefore the sibling condition of the more common turf toe, see explanations there.
