Definition of
No separate clinical picture, collective term for metatarsal pain of rays 2-5, the big toe is treated separately. Some of the disorders are the result of altered kinetics of the foot, subluxations, arthrosis, capsular impingement, cracks in the plantar plate, sesamoid bone fractures, sesamoiditis. Subdivisions into primary and secondary, the primary according to the subject:
- Soft tissue
- Nerve changes ( esp. Morton neuralgia)
- Overloading of the small ligaments (ligaments)
- tendon sheathsinflammation (tendovaginitis)
- inflammation of the connective tissue plate (fasciitis) or bursitis (bursitis)
- Soft tissue tumours (sarcomas)
- Bone
- After healed injuries (post-traumatic)
- Morbus Köhler type II (aseptic bone necrosis)
- chronic periosteuminflammation

- Joints

- Tests and signs: Strunsky test, Mulder click test 1 and 2
Symptoms
- Metatarsalgia, especially during and after exercise
