Infraspinatus
scapulohumeral muscle of the shoulder girdle, as external rotator of the arm extending from the middle inner shoulder blade to the posterior outer upper humerus.
Independent of the position of the arm, the infraspinatus is the stronger exorotator compared to the Teres minor. In contrast to the Teres minor, the infraspinatus can contribute to lateral abduction with the upper fibres and to lateral adduction with the lower fibres with further lateral abduction.
Origin: Infraspinous fossa of the lower inner posterior scapula
Attachment: Tuberculum majus or facies musculi infraspinati of the upper posterior humerus
Innervation: Nervus suprascapularis from plexus brachialis (C4-C6)
Antagonists:
Movement: External rotation
