Lumbar spine hyperlordosis (hollow back)
Definition
Chronic hyperlordosis of the lumbar spine
Cause
- mostly acquired
- Shortened tendons and ligaments due to chronic poor posture
- Wedge vertebrae, e.g. in the context of senile osteoporosis
Predisposing
– Behavior
- sedentary work
- Lack of exercise
- Frequent unhealthy sitting
- high footwear
– Disposing diseases of the musculoskeletal system
- Spondylolisthesis
- Muscular imbalance with shortened hip flexors, often weak buttocks, abdominal and back muscles
Symptoms
- Often compensatory hyperkyphosis of the thoracic spine
- Hypertonus and possibly hypertrophy of the paravertebral back muscles
- possibly lumbar back pain
Complications
Therapy
- Compensation of muscular imbalance
- Training of postural awareness
