M. tensor fasciae latae

Tensioner of the lateral fascia of the thigh(iliotibial tract) extending into the lower leg to the fibula. In pathology, the functional unit of tensor fasciae latae and iliotibial tract can become conspicuous due to runner’s knee (ITBS or ilio-tibial band syndrome) if the iliotibial tract rubs unfavorably against the lateral condyle of the femur during sports such as running or cycling and causes a painful state of irritation during movement.
Origin: SIAS and aponeurosis of the gluteus medius muscle
Attachment: via the iliotibial tract on the lateral condyle of the tibia
Innervation: Nervus gluteus superior from plexus sacralis from L4,L5,S1
Antagonists:
Movement: Flexion of the knee joint (up to large angles, over 30°), extension in the knee joint (only at large angles, approx. up to 30°), flexion, endorotation and abduction of the thigh in the hip joint, also slight exorotation of the lower leg when the knee joint is flexed
