M. quadratus femoris

When contracted, the quadratus femoris lifts the sciatic nerve running above it, preventing it from becoming trapped between the greater trochanter and the ischial tuberosity.
Origin: ischial t uberosity (outer ischium)
Attachment: Crista intertrochanterica of the inner upper femur
Antagonists:
Movement: Exorotation (second strongest exorotator after the gluteus maximus when the knee joint is widely extended), abduction in the hip joint
